Captions (dialogue and off-screen sounds) and subtitles (dialogue) can enable d/Deaf people, people with varying hearing loss and people whose first language is not English, to access and enjoy a fuller cinematic experience.
Details of Captioned and Subtitled screenings throughout the festival can be found at the bottom of this page.
To make the cinematic experience more accessible for everyone, GFF features several free or low-price screenings.
The always popular Retrospective strand offers a selection of free morning screenings of modern masterpieces and cult classics. GFF26’s retrospective theme is ‘Truth to Power’, featuring 10 classics from the 1960s to the present day that stand as cinematic statements of resistance, or feature characters that rise against the machines of power. Taking place at 10:30am, tickets for each of the retrospective films are available from the Box Office on the day of the screening.
This year, Glasgow Film Festival presents its first film club, a series of three feminist discussion events inspired by a selection of our films ‘Born in Flames’, ‘Carrie’ and ‘Moulin Rouge!’. These sessions will be facilitated by Dr. Hannah Granberry, an academic in Film Studies who specialises in nostalgia, horror and cultural studies and take place at Glasgow Women’s Library. Tickets are available on a sliding scale here.
We also offer a range of free industry and film events throughout the festival, including a range of sessions for young people interested in a career in film. More information about these events can be found here.
